LeSean McCoy's Take on Jalen Hurts' Medical Situation, Eagles' Future. | Transcript:

All right, Shady, some news that kind of shook the NFL world. Jaylen Herz is done for the year. Yeah, this is a pretty unfortunate story just overall in general, and I want to dive into it with you, but for people that haven't seen it, kind of what happened here. Uh Jaylen Herz out for the year with a blood clot that moved from started in his leg and moved up into his lungs. Yeah. Now, the reason why this story is gaining so much traction is because of the travel that was involved in this. So, for the timeline for everyone, the Eagles played in London the other week.

They arrived in London. The blood clot was discovered late Saturday night in London. The game was the next day on Sunday. Herz returned to the team hotel room around 2:45 local time on Sunday. Slept in until about 10:00 a.m. took the bus to the stadium, then took a nap at the stadium. He played a full game against the Jags with that blood clot. Then they flew back from London to Philadelphia. And one thing about blood clots, you are not supposed to be flying whenever or traveling or anything when it comes to this stuff. Shady, he is done for the year. And to me, this seems like a situation that was mishandled. But I want to know your thoughts on this situation between the

Eagles and Herz. It's your team. It's your guy. This sucks more than anything, but give me your thoughts on this situation. Yeah. So, I got a lot of, you know, friends over there, teammates, coaches, etc. GMs, everybody was my guys, right? And I did some my own homework because there's so many different stories, you know, with the belief. And the truth is as a player, and I know that from being a player where you might get banged up in a game, right, and second quarter, you play a whole fourth quarter and you kind of forget about it. And then you're home chilling like, "Dang, a little sore." You're always going to be sore after games.

They say it's like a mini car accident every time you get hit. Yeah. Um and what I heard is that he got banged up in the Rams game, right? Yeah. And was like, "Man, I'm I'm a little sore here." And they were treating him on it or something like that. They said he got cleed. You know, that's like somebody's might stepped on him or something like that, right? And a trainer only knows if a player's hurt unless the player tells him. So, I think once he told him that they treated him, he said, "You know what? It's a little bit worse than we thought after treating him a couple days. They get there to London and now they start do um digging more into what the injury is." Then I think they found it there was a blood clot, right?

I think they did their due diligence on what it was um you know, and they treated him as such. Another thing that's not true, they said that they kept him up for 36 hours. That is not true. I did my homework on it. I talked to my people over there. That's not true. Um they he did get some sleep, right? But I don't think he slept too much because with the blood clots, they don't want you sleeping too much on it, right? Um I did think that the team did their best for him, right? It's just a weird situation because if I'm a player and I think Jaylen Hers is wired the same way where he wants to play, right? And they say, "Hey, man, you know, um injury half, right? It's not

terrible. you know, you can play with it and once you heard that, oh, let's go. I'm ready to roll. And I think that's what happened. You know, I truly believe that knowing Jeffrey Lur, the owner, Nick Serani, Howie Roseman, they're going to do the best for their franchise quarterback. Hey, you mentioned Sirani and he's kind of taking some heat for how this has been handled and communicated to the media and to fans. Yeah. Do you just think that he was kind of put in an impossible situation when it comes to this? I do believe that because as a head coach, right, first of all, he's on both sides. was going with the def going with the offense. And he has the best experts

when it comes to the medical field, the doctors. He has to trust those people. Yeah. That's why they get paid big bucks. They get paid big money. Oh, I bet. And think about it. NFL has all the best medicine. A guy can be injured, supposed to be injured for two months. He's back in two weeks with the NFL, right? Right. And I think he asked the doctors, "Hey, is Jaylen good? Can he go?" And they told him, "Yes, and then let's roll." He doesn't know all the particulars and details of every injury. It don't work like that, you know. So, have you been around a situation or a player that maybe was also seriously hurt or injured like this that just

wanted to play more than anything? Was there a moment like that in your career? I mean, every true player, every true dog, right, every player is not like that. Player get injured, oh, I'm done for the year. I think Jaylen Herz, other players like myself, we play to win. We play for the city. We play for the team. Um, and there's guys where sometimes you have to hold the player back, you get what I mean, to not going out there. Um, this is just unfortunate how this one happen. It's incredibly unfortunate. I think he's Super Bowl champion. He's an icon in Philadelphia. He's an icon in the NFL. He played in two Super Bowls.

Is there any moving on to kind of a little bit about what the Eagles do from here cuz they don't have their quarterback for the rest of the year. Yeah. Are you trying to salvage this season or are you just, you know what, this is the hand that we were dealt this year. Jaylen has to be healthy. We when he is healthy, we will focus on that. But for now, we are, you know, this is just what it is.

Well, most teams, you know, if you don't have your franchise quarterback, you really don't win. And on top of that, we got a lot of other guys hurt as well. Um, this is not our year. Obviously, every team has this. The Chiefs had one last year. Yeah. Right. The funny thing, they had one last year. Nobody even talked about it because they knew. And then look what happened this year. We're the same thing. If you look at this, the duration of Nick Syani as our head coach, all he does is win. So, this is our down year. We'll still fight for the division.

Um, hopefully we get some of our guys back healthy. And if not, it might not be a good year. But I will say, um, he's turned around bad teams, too, before he got them. People think, oh, he has a great roster. Doug Peterson, I think, was like four and 12 or something like that the year. Yeah. When he took over, right? That's one thing. And the second thing is I truly believe that um we can find out like who's the guys for the future. So maybe like right like the backup quarterback, was it Tanner, right? Or we offensive line is banged up right now. Who can step up to build up? The defense is obviously still terrific. You take a pick high with Mai Lemon with wide receiver. You obviously still have Smitty.

I agree with you. I think this is like And we got draft picks this year, too. You got draft picks and you probably have a higher draft pick than you were expecting to win this year. And we got Howie Roseman. And you got Howie Roseman who is the best GM in the NFL. You might have a down year, but other teams when they have down years, there's no playoff fight. There's nothing for us. Our down year will probably be in the playoffs. Just won't win. Yeah. Well, it hopefully a speedy recovery for Jaylen Herz. Sucks not having him. Uh but yeah, it's it's it's gonna be a weird year for Eagles fans now for sure.

Yeah. You I mean when you win so much, that's what happens. That's what happens, you know. That's what happens.
