This is going on with Ohio State football and their star quarterback Julian Seyan. He got roughed up towards the end of the Indiana game and had a arm injury. Not a lot of specifics, but they said he's going to be out for the regular season and expect him to be out for the playoffs. Now, Seyan was having a very good season. 19 touchdowns that led the Big 10. Uh his uh quarterback rating was number one in the Big 10. And if you look at that, it's like he jammed up his arm shoulder area. Yeah, it looks like maybe elbow. Uh Julian Sain, of course, former prodigy, number one recruit kind of guy. He's been good. But I mean, let's face it, it's Ohio State. He's good. But I think I could throw about eight touchdowns
there because you just throw to Jeremiah Smith, the best player in the country. That is a hard thing with Ohio State quarterbacks to know how good they are because there's so much talent on the roster. But Seyan did have 21 career starts. You're going to have five more. You're going to go into the playoffs with a veteran quarterback and the best wide receiver possibly in history. Now they're going to go likely to a true freshman named Luke Fehee or a sophomore Tavian Stlair. Now the bigger picture issue and you know this is the College Football Playoff Committee now will get rid of the first half of the season and look at Ohio State football as if this is a new resume. What they do in the
next five or six weeks against USC, Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska, and Michigan. Right now that's not an easy schedule nor a brutal schedule, but it's not a it's it's somewhere in between. There's a lossable game in there if you have a backup quarterback. I think that's a pretty hard schedule because you with a backup. I think that'd be hard with Julian Sab because I don't think Ohio State is I don't think anyone's dominant right now. I think Nebraska's been playing a lot tougher this year. So you mentioned that the committee is going to evaluate them.
Can you evaluate them based on a wide receiver and not a quarterback? So when Florida State's quarterback got hurt, they immediately Jordan. Yeah. They took them out of the picture, right? But that's because I think they had to put Alabama in. There's a couple things going on here. one, Ohio State has the best player in the country. That's eyeballs. They do very well in ratings. I think the Ohio State Indiana game got over 10 million. So, that's a big deal. Uh, and also it's not like the with 12 teams, they don't have to boot Ohio State to get somebody who has also high ratings in and they're very shallow
this committee. So, I think they're going to keep Ohio State in. There's a lot going on here. Ma, my lord, think of Ohio State lost that game to Indiana, which they could have lost it by about six inches. But Ohio State has built a bigger resume, but they will be get judged by the personnel on the field for the second half of the season. Yeah, but you know, again, and how to say it. Well, you're going to say like this backup quarterback now, he doesn't have one game to prove himself. Let's say Fehee or the other backup does really well the next five weeks. It's kind of a wash now. It's all they're back to grading them as they are.
Yeah. I think this is not going to be solely about the quarterback because of Jeremiah Smith. And I don't want to hear about quality of play or anything. They know Ohio State is one of the most popular teams in the country. They will get them in. But this to me this uh entire situation is such an NIL era thing in the old days. Ohio State as 2014 had Braxen Miller, Cardell Jones, I mean oh actually no Braxie Miller might have been gone, right? They had uh who was the other quarterback? JT Barrett. They could go three deep with big-time quarterbacks. Now their backup should be Lincoln Keenholds, but he's gone because in the NIL era he gets paid to play somewhere else. So they have to go to two nobodyies to a true freshman. But yeah, it's a
good point by you. 2014 Ohio State has done this before. They lost their star quarterback. Cardell Jones was listed as third string. Big guy, played fantastic. He would have been gone in the NIL. He would have been starting somewhere else. There's no way he would still be at Ohio. He would have been at Northwestern. He would have been on Iowa, transferred somewhere else. But Ohio State has done this before, but not in this era.
They've never had to go this deep into the quarterback roster. No. I mean, listen, Luke Fehee, no offense, this should not be the back. you should have a super fivestar behind him or an experienced guy behind him. It doesn't make any sense. Star in waiting. Yeah, you're Ohio State. You have the best roster in the country. Uh this is pure NIL. You cannot build depth. And that's why I think we saw five out of top seven teams lose this weekend because nobody has depth. There are no more elite teams. Now, some teams, if this were an SEC team, they try to acquire someone off another roster, but I don't think you could do so in October, November.
You can't acquire somebody off a roster. Portal is not open, but I could see like I could see Lane Kein doing it. Paul, what about academics?
