Flip Galaxy Features and What to Know

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 6 brings AI features and improved specs, but is it worth upgrading from the Z Flip 5? We compare design, performance, and trade-in offers to help you decide if the new model justifies the cost.

To update or not to update, that is the question. I think smartphone manufacturers have already come to terms with the fact that people don't buy new models every year. But Samsung found a very aggressive way to make the offer more attractive. Until last year, if you traded in your old Z Flip in good condition, you only had to pay around $100 extra. It was so profitable that I couldn't resist for the last three generations. But this year things have become more difficult. In one corner we have the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which Samsung calls the power of Galaxy AI in your pocket, and in the other, last year's Galaxy Z Flip 5. Probably the best change in this line in recent times, but back then artificial intelligence wasn't such a big

deal. Now, under the trade-in program, you will have to pay about $460, which makes you wonder: should you upgrade or wait? I'm the Hero of Pocket Now, and it's time to compare the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. This year, Samsung's approach to selling the Z Flip has become quite interesting, as the steady price decline seen for three generations has almost stopped. And now, for the first time in history, it has become $100 more expensive. The question arises as to whether you really get a much better phone with these changes. And, well, visually, it's easy to assume that this is just a cosmetic update. The Z Flip 6 is now completely flat, which definitely gives it a more elegant and minimalist

look compared to last year, but this is one case where I don't like the design change. You see, part of what makes a clamshell cool is the ability to easily open and close it with one hand. And let's just say, the sharp edges leave no room to easily pry the lid off. In all other respects, the dimensions are absolutely identical. Both phones have the same weight, Armor aluminum, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. I like the matte edges of the new model, at least visually. But for now, my Although, let's be honest, I'm just nitpicking. As soon as you look at the displays, the situation completely changes in favor of the new phone and will remain so for some time. Sure, they have almost the same specs, resolution, and external screen size, but the

new phone's brightness reaches 1600 nits, which is certainly very nice. Samsung has added the ability to place more widgets on the external screen, as well as some artificial intelligence features that allow visual elements to adapt to the weather and location. However, I wouldn't call this an advantage, as it will most likely soon appear on older Flip models, but more on that later. So, when you open them, there are nice changes inside that aren't easy to notice right away. Each device features the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X screen with identical The change is that the new display has received additional protective layers to increase durability, as well as to make the crease less noticeable. Although, of course, it still exists,

because the laws of physics cannot be circumvented. The new panel is also brighter, up to 2,600 nits at peak, though colors and image quality are about the same, and both screens still have issues with polarizing glasses. Same starting price and, of course, better strap options for those who love minimalism. Important is the new 3- nanometer Exynos W1000 chip that powers the device. And yes, I can't say that there is a big difference in the quality of the speakers. Both phones do this task quite well. But okay, let's talk about foldable devices. And of course, I wouldn't blame you if you thought they looked. But the internal components are another area where the changes technically sound minor, but they are important. On the one

hand, of course, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy is faster, has a more powerful GPU, and is better suited to AI than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but, to be honest, not by much. Even their architecture is the same. What's worth noting is that the new Flip has significantly more RAM-12 GB versus 8, and it's the first Galaxy Z Flip with an evaporative cooling chamber for long-term use. It also has a larger battery and dust protection, not just In fact, the only thing these phones have in common is their connectivity and storage options. In everything else, the Flip 6 is a much better phone. As for the software, I can't say there's a clear winner here. I mean, of course, the Z Flip 6 has all the external screen improvements I mentioned

and the latest version of One UI. The thing is, these are mostly new AI features that will allow you to use multiple screens for translation and other really cool features. But if history is any indication, I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before they show up on the Z Flip 5. Samsung did an incredible job of adding the benefits of the S24 to the phone in just a few weeks. But, uh, there is one caveat. Remember that the amount of RAM on a device is key for generative AI to work And last year's phone was quite limited in this regard. This is another reason why the Z Flip 6 is a must- buy.

Otherwise, it remains my favorite version of Android, with a denser icon grid, side menus for quick multitasking, and more. In the year that I've used the Z Flip 5, it's been a good phone in the basics. Great performance overall and very good battery life. Still, this is another area where, in my opinion, the Z Flip 6 is better. I notice an improvement in battery life, as well as heating control. And yes, I see it completing certain tasks faster. I wouldn't say he's better at communication or phone calls, but in everything else, he's definitely better. The last determining factor is, of course, the cameras. And here the Z Flip 6 again has good improvements. In terms of specifications, I would n't say that the ultra-wide-angle camera has changed, but the

main one finally got a decent 50- megapixel sensor. Of course, I would have liked to have a separate 2x button for official digital cropping, but testing has proven that there are advantages. During the day, the difference is usually difficult to notice. But boy, do the Z Flip 6 have better colors, especially when mixing red or yellow hues. The shots have much more depth and character, whereas on the Z Flip 5 they look a bit paler, and there is also an improvement in dynamic range. Unfortunately, I don't see much of a 2x advantage on the new phone, but the difference is noticeable when you

zoom in closer. The results from the ultra-wide-angle camera are quite similar. I also don't see much difference in But I can say that the Z Flip 6 shoots much faster than the Z Flip 5. Especially the ultra-wide-angle camera: the Flip 5 can take forever in difficult conditions, while the new phone copes instantly. The results are quite comparable, as each phone takes its own time. It's funny that the ability to take selfies and portraits with the main camera is a strength of both phones, but strangely enough, I find the internal selfie camera does a better job with skin tone and dynamic range. Perhaps the internal camera is simply better suited for

this task. That being said, when it comes to video, both phones perform about the same, which is to say, not very well. The quality is not bad, but I don't like the bitrate, excessive sharpness, or image distortion. The same goes for the selfie camera on both devices. The rolling shutter effect is too noticeable. Seriously, there's no point in adding any video camera modes if the result doesn't match the cost of both devices. In conclusion, this comparison was worth my time. here. I thought the changes over the year would be insignificant, but it turned out that this was not the case. The new Z Flip 6 is better built. It's also more powerful, and therefore better suited for AI, long-term workloads like gaming, and arguably takes

better photos. Unfortunately, Trade-in conditions are no longer as favorable as they used to be, but it is still much better than offers from other companies or paying full price. If it were my money, I would definitely upgrade. And this is one of those cases where I think the new AI features make this upgrade worth it for you too. But it also depends on whether you can find a good deal. On the other hand, of course, you may lose some of the benefits on the device, but we don't live offline all the time. So, I would go with the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Even if you find the Z Flip 5 at a good discount right now, I think buying a new phone is a better investment in the long run.
