what's going on back here at rep to landia with quip of wire and this is a suu's forest T Turtle I always say tortoise but it's a forest turtle um and we are going to have some more fun with reptiles here uh we are in Johnson City Texas you have to check rep we have another video that is up as well the place is chalk full of animals so we had to break this into two videos so what are you talking about with this man talk to me about this's Forest Turtle this is one of the most or the more endangered species of uh turtle in the world these are in big trouble in the wild um in
the beginning when these came into captivity uh people had a lot of trouble with them um I have personally not have any had any trouble with them uh they're pretty easy to keep when you set them up like this yep look at place like uh running water seems to be important to them they sleep in streams I know people who have field collected them um and uh they seem to like to sleep in streams and uh you can Keenan you're a turtle guy you feel them tell me oh that's a you know the turtle is heavier than uh it looks and that's important firm shell but look
at this enclosure guys we're going to put him down here and you can number one look at that shell look at this Leaf litter that's exactly why these animals are colored like they are uh the adults however ad go ahead I'll let you do your thing um so check this out the adults are really cool too but again all these enclosures here repia are uh are just incredible is it reptilandia yeah very cool so um live plants grasses we got I don't want him to step on this guy so we'll put him over there um I love it you're right though the running water is key man
there's so many turtle species love these kind of habitats look at this look at the face on this guy isn't that something they get a little bit bigger than this as well um but look at that face on the wow how many do you have in here oh there's four that is so cool I moved the other one out of your way so he's over there no problem um this is an awesome Turtle again very healthy feels like a lead weight and uh so sick Bro really cool turtle species I love it yeah these are very unique and Charming it's like a tropical equivalent of a North American wood turtle that's right exactly
we're going to be getting some more of these uh pretty soon as from Zoo Surplus because number of us zoos have had pretty good luck with these and they've got Surplus now so thank God a build yes uh so we're going to build a nice colony of these yeah that would be colony and this is one of those animals that I want to work with for the rest of my life that's cool man well certainly be able to do that and this is awesome species so what room or what building would this be considered here as we're starting this new tour look at this cloud forest here we got a little bit of f we call
this we call this the temperate building I mean I know you wonder why I'm not from SE climates but this cage worked for them with temperature and everything well you know what's funny even though they're from a tropical environment people think it's always hot in the tropics but when you go up in elevation I've been to Costa Rica Mont ver it was 55° the microclimate is right it's incredible yeah mic that what we got this is a bow python have a no can you open up I want to see the bowan python this is something we rarely get to see um from what I understand and maybe I'm
out of date with my information difficult for these to breed not much didn't I had just you them in Costa Rica that's what we're talking about look at this guy dude who's not loving oh man you can feel the difference look at the snake he's coming the snake's coming he thinks he's getting fed look at that python Bowman's python they found an altitude in New Guinea New Guinea look at this enclosure dude see you're able to do things with your enclosures that are so magical man the fog in here it's cooler in here and that's what this snake loves I mean what
can you tell me about bowling since you've had success breeding them all right well it's a very unique snake there is uh there's plenty of snakes that live in high altitude but there's not a snake anywhere in the world that gets half this size that gets uh it lives with that altitude how many are in here there another one okay yeah cuz I'm focused in on this guy and I could potentially get nailed by so what I can tell you about B by it's interesting is that when I did him in CR I had him in a semi- outdoor enclosure um the way that it was set up the sun would hit the uh cage
for a couple of hours in the morning okay um and one the female laid eggs you know I the she took enough time that it was the sun had passed her cage and she was frantically trying to get into the sun uh get out of the cage after she had laid the eggs and I figured no harm done open the door let her crawl out on the grass it took her all 2 minutes to get warm enough to L come back to the eggs oh wow heat so these are very efficient warmers well they got that black skin and that the thing that I notic about them is that iridescence that something interesting about these
as well it was like I have had a lot of bad experiences believe it or not in CR with um with snakes having problems from the humidity CU it's so humid there and typically as a rule CBDs were the first ones who got uh to get skin problems and then after that it was vipers and then last P it was bers and pythons but I did um I just a number of the baby bowling as sad as it is to say got skin problems and I lost them um but you know I guess that's the payoff for having a skin that is so efficient at heating up makes it sensitive in other ways I've talked to
some Australian friends of mine about Diamond pythons U which is another cold adapted python not quite like these but you know they were of the opinion that uh Diamond pythons were also more sensitive to uh too much humidity the other stuff so it's it's a tradeoff far yeah this is awesome though man this enclosure is great that's a beautiful snake um and then the other one's over here just kind of hanging out right there that's awesome yeah this is really cool but this is a cool a lot what a lot of people don't get is that it's not everything is a you know don't get me wrong I think it's rack systems or anything like
that but uh that's not appropriate for everything right some stuff like such as this snake coming up here oh what is this snake Okay this is a m Shand Viper oh yeah oh wow right there two of these here there you go man we've seen these with uh Tom Crutchfield this is the other one beautiful snake um Tom you know really has some great interactions with these snakes this is definitely a very smart snake um one of the fascinating things that we've noticed about them we have them set up with a waterfall is there any change in the water they're very attentive of okay the
water stops we drop a level they're all over it I was told by a friend of mine who uh you know had been in their habitat that they live in what's I refer to as flood ruts you know so they're uh um you know they have to pay attention to that something else that I've noticed about this uh this species here that for these individuals as you can see this is the male here okay and this is the female but typically in captivity uh the females will lose their coloration and they'll become a lot they'll have like a more bleached look to them um that has not happened in uh in
our case and you know I blame I attribute that to the really high humidity these guys like a lot of humidity and can tolerate it you know most of if you were to keep a bush Master like this it would be dead in a week wow U but these guys the humidity you look at this thing he's dripping man I think the sprinklers were on and they're they're fine with it we have had zero skin problems we had years very cool this is just amazing we haven't even we're not even like 20 ft into the building look at this yeah we have uh metag ground Bowers oh wow what's the Latin on
these uh this is athropos madagascarensis okay um is a sister species to dumal bowl I was going to say you know it's different coloration but they're in the same genus yeah it's the same idea okay this is more of a forest from WEA habitat than Doom Rose bers gotcha and these have uh you see these Less in captivity because they have much smaller litters you know these will have like a big litter for these is would be six or eight um but dumal bows have much bigger lits so there's more of those around um there's uh there's two of these in here I don't see really
one right now well the other one probably blending in really nicely to that leaf litter This is So Co where is that oh yeah there you go maybe open it up and yeah this I'd like to just have a peek in and show everybody um this snake and how well it's doing look at this and so these are Ambush Predators also huh yeah they seem to these guys really seem to appreciate the leaf that I don't know where his head is but oh here he is there he goes That's great beautiful snake man so this one's going into a shed yep awesome dude thank you so much for doing this
is so cool um I hope you guys are getting ideas how to keep your animals you know you can create your own mini Zoo right in your bedrooms wherever you keep your animals if you just you know get a little creative try and think like the snake what does the animal need what would you want to live in if you were a serpent or a lizard or a tortoise and try and emulate that right this is not it's not prohibitive you know you can put something like this together for and that's part of the fun right yeah for not that much money right I mean look at these are some beautiful snakes
yes these are canal from uh um from Tamal tamas in Mexico these are related to our water moccasin correct and uh the copperhead the keeron right yeah so wow that's pretty man what kind of behavior or habitat I guess obviously this so they're drier yeah it's like a uh a subtropical Thorn Forest okay is where they live um these are very interesting snakes uh there's this is something that should be uh people should take should shouldn't take for granted because they're uh they're in uh cartel country in talpas okay and in Mexico so there's no other ones that going to come out ever so you don't go in there so they're protected
they're yeah they're protected in way and they're you know as far as permits out of Mexico is very hard okay um so you know I'd like to see these snakes respected for what they are activity more these breed these are very easy to breed in here this is like a little Texas cage um we have a coach wh in here oh right on yeah is a coach whip and we have some hungry three toad boxing oh look at that we found one over at our friend uh Ben at Urban Rescue Ranch in uh Waco Texas oh nice look like that as well look just like that yeah very cool and you know these guys this is a zoo where
you can come bring your family uh some people are enjoying the animals right now so if you hear some noise that's that's what's going on we have some looks like some map turtles here is this a Cypress swamp exactly this is a Cypress swamp exhibit here we have map turtles um we have some box turtles some spotted Turtles very cool up here we have a golf hammock Rass snake which is uh snake that I've become very endeared to over the last couple years what is it about this snake I don't know I can't put my finger on it I don't like them I mean they're not beautiful per but they just have cool
Behavior probably you know like it's always fun to see snakes basking up in branches and things like that see the way they fit into that into their environment y here we have this a nerodia and a spotted they're basking right there up on that log that is awesome man where would you where else would you see a water snake and a spotted Turtle having a bask so that's cool oh this is a big old yeah this is a big is a beardy or he a Healer oh yeah this is a beaded ex esperum there a couple in here wow we breed these every year it's amazing arguably the
largest rattlesnake um these are basiliscus um from the Pacific coast of Mexico wait so these are even larger than Eastern Diamondback it's Up For Debate is it really okay so they're similar work they're similar if not if not uh it's not big it's not been verified Southern Sor Mexico over here uh we have some angolan pythons we have three of them in here there's so much man that's from Grand Canary Island so this is one of the lizards you saw when you got that job over there huh oh yeah which is kind of funny because it was like these get huge and the first one that I saw I
thought it was an escaped rhino iguana really yeah they get big they get that big they get that big you'll get to see it when that's awesome uh when I pull the one out all right let's have a look these guys are in real trouble in the wild believe it or not because of somebody introduced a population of albino California king snakes inary that's crazy so they're eating yeah they're eating the eggs and the babies and stuff yeah so this is kind of cool guys we're going to see a species from the Canary Islands if he can grab it do these guys drop their tails yeah they do okay look at this is the female
let me see let's walk around it's so dark um in light there we go that is awesome man as you can see this is a pretty big lizard right but they get a good deal bigger than they get much bigger than that yeah like Rhino Guana size you're saying um that's what you said you thought I thought it was I mean not an adult Rhino okay but they get I'd say they'd get about 2 and a/2 ft but it's a really Hefty 2 and 1/2 fet that's cool yeah with big heads these are primarily vegetarians oh wow um and this is something that is not getting a lot of conservation tension even though they should
why do you think that is uh that's hard to say I mean it's people are aware of their plight but they're not you know I'm actually I take that in the US they're getting attention in the canaries but they're not getting do you hear a growl yeah that's so funny well you know it's tough to it's a tough cell right with to get a lizard high up on the conservation status you know reptiles have that kind of prejudice against them that's cool man awesome that's something we've never seen because little burrow he's made down oh yeah he's hiding down there he's hiding there these
guys make extensive for us oh that's cool though and they're able to continue that behavior here in this exhibit which is so important yeah so like right now in uh in gr Canary where they're from there is a uh there's plenty of little on and there's plenty of big ones but the midsize ones want the snakes are that's so crazy you wouldn't think we always hear about invasives in our country right but it's but it's a problem all over Island stuff is very vulnerable right this is we have some European vipers here no way these are from uh Mount Olympus Greece I was told it's amod
which is pretty right uh well uh widespread snake in uh in Eastern Europe pretty snake too and it seems to have a bit of a rostral projection on it common long noose vipers oh okay um terapin yeah this year is a Florida to Florida mro ex beautiful I one of my favorite turtle species um are these the ornate uh M yeah I believe that's I think it is yeah they're pretty just a pretty Turtle Man and it's so funny to think that these Turtles were just freaking almost eaten into Extinction in the early part of 20th century it's such a pretty animal and here now people want to
collect them you know from the dinner table to uh people just want them yeah stard them exactly this is a cool exhibit this is a European um Streamside exhibit there a lot of European species in here yeah look back up there is some type of lizard I'm not sure Lepa [__] lasoda oh wow and then European pond Turtle uh yes we have Herman tortoises oh that's really cool well done man you got Herman's tortoise you got these European pond turtles we have a n soft shell in here as well and there is a uh stard which I don't see here's some lizard up here is that another lerta uh yeah there
another one up there cool man and we have uh we have the shelter food sticks as well um I'd like to keep uh tortoises a lot of people don't like to do this I like to do tortoises like this with a lot of furniture I like to make them work yes um to keep their muscles in order dude it's the same thing you know Colette Adams we both know from gladies Porter Zoo wrote a paper on the goopo to um I have built furniture in their enclosure to help him walk better but you know it's it's true it can't hurt especially where testudo are found you can see him he's walking over the large
river rock that you've put in here their tortoises are little tanks yes you know it's good for their muscles it's good for their nails and it's good for their shells as well because it's you know these are captive bread captive bread and born and raised but they almost don't look it they almost look like Wild Ones well that's that's a good point A lot of times the pyramiding uh isn't only dietary thank you yeah it's erosion thank you it's buffing you can see the other one for whatever reason see the female in the back yep she's looks almost wild yeah she looks great but
it rubs they rub and let them be tortoises man they're being tortoises you want to let them be what they are yeah I would my personal thoughts on pyramiding is okay a portion of it is Diet a portion of it is humidity that's Undisputed but I think the portion of it that people don't pay enough attention to is the buffing wear and tear man and te because tortoises all the tortoises that I've ever worked with in my life I'm not saying I've worked with every species but they really appreciate rubbing against wood definitely I've seen they feel uh through their shell
they can scratch and so on this is awesome man this whole Endeavor I mean randia Texas you know oh W this is a Texas exhibit this is a trans Picos uh I believe so yeah it's one I don't I've been out of practice with my North American that's okay but tell can't tell you which where that Copperhead is from that's a pretty beautiful copper head though that's awesome man in here we have this is one I can open for you uh if you want this is the P ponal yeah oh so that's Southern South America we have yellow anacondas and false water cobras the false water Cobra I do not
see but yeah like I said you want me to yeah let's check them out man yellow an we can't see those in Florida anymore yeah exactly so we might as well soak it up while we're here oh this whole thing opens that is awesome oh my gosh this is got this guy has got a quite a uh temper feeding reflex okay don't worry about it's not really a temper but it's just feeding reflex got okay that's pretty man what's the full size of a yellow anaconda um I would say you know there this is an adult but I'd say uh probably not more than 7 ft on
average yeah I didn't really I'm not schooled on yeah neither am I for that matter but I mean it's there's no comparison as far as the size with the is again p now so you've got the water Cobra is uh I don't the water Cobra rather I don't he's probably hiding somewhere no worries has he is he oh he's here's his feet and you know I got an air sock on my microphone here that looks fur fuzzy yeah that's cool man oh he's coming don't worry I know that look yeah you're going to find yourself doing that uh what that guy tried to do years ago film himself
getting eaten by an oh man yeah Paul Rosalie I guess yeah no don't want to do that no we got to respect ourselves and respect science I hear you wow this is really cool man so this is just one cor door here yeah this is uh the temperate building and this is connected over here oh really there's more yeah to uh it's connected to the building we just came from That's So red oh look at this very cool we didn't look at this here this is a setup we have for some of our small Bush Masters oh I love Bush Masters yeah you showed us these when we were
in Costa Rica yeah you actually pulled them out for us that's so right y I love Bush Masters and this is Aon Viper being back in the States I can work with African venomous there you go I wasn't allowed to do there but uh man it's so much you know how many and you plan on doing outdoor EX here eventually yeah so amazing that's why uh I love it I mean this is my first time to this new facility and uh guys it is awesome so make sure yeah make sure you get out here again it's so dark in here cuz everything's lit up for the animals uh so you can view them but there he
is quel DWI thank you so much yes yeah man we'll see you guys soon on another video say take care
