Good morning once more. I welcome you all to this morning nature walk. I've got a colleague with you of mine here. His name is Dennis. Dennis is one of the wild police officer. And he's here to escort us uh in case of the dangerous game. This is a granite rock here. With these uh holes that you can see. These holes were made by humans. They've been here for over a period of 300 to 400 years ago. In the evening after they've done their things, they would come and gather here and play this kind of a game.
This is a candelabra phobia in a Jewish candle stand called the menorah. Yeah, because of its appearance. Uh this candelabra phobia normally it grows on the rocky areas, especially around this area where there are rocky areas. And you can see from here that these are rocks. So getting all its roots getting its roots here, getting down here for more nutrients. You see there are some tiny balls on the ground. They look like a soil particles, but it's not soil particles. These are dungs from the caterpillars. The larvae from the butterflies are the one eating on the trees, and these are their droppings uh on the ground. They're still rich as well uh to produce nutrients on the soil or they add nutrients in the soil for the
germination of the plants. Yeah, so let me just show you the caterpillar that he I'm talking about. So, that's a caterpillar there. It's a larvae from the butterfly. So, when they are hatched they go and look for the trees sometimes that they've got a lot of milk because they feed on the milk from the leaves. They eat the leaves from the tree. Then after in this stage they will make a cocoon or a chrysalis where they go and uh change to become in an in a in the adult form, develop the wings, uh and fly. So, they provide food in the ecosystem. They're very important
for us humans and animals, especially this time of the year. I'm standing here on the huge granite rock which has got a historical behind it. The people that used to live in the Kafue National Park they use this rock as a sacred place. So, what they used to do these people they used to have small lands where they used to do some farmings. So, during the rain season like the way it is and they see that there's no rains these people would come on top of the rock there the whole night trying to pray to their god that they believed in. And maybe after some few days, you would see crowds forming and rains.
They would still come on top of the rock there doing some celebrations there. They will brew some traditional beer. They will cook some traditional food. Everybody will be gathered up there drumming and dancing and enjoy eating and drinking as well. Just to give you thanks to their God that they believed in. So, this is part of the historical about this beautiful granite rock.
