My friends, welcome to this episode of The Outdoor Gear Review. I hope you all are doing well. Last year, I reviewed a bivy tent from a company known as MC2 Mount. Up until that point, every single tent that I tested out from that company was a winner. They were awesome. Seriously. Every single product up until that point was very, very impressive. They were impressive because the company uses very good materials. At the same time, they're very well made. At the same time, incredibly waterproof. And also at the same time, their tents are very, very affordable. Every single tent that I had tested out up until that point from the company featured a really good design. The exception was the tent
that I'm talking about. It was a bivy tent, and it featured the worst design of any tent I have ever tested. On paper, it sounded impressive. But once you set it up and actually got inside of it, it made no sense at all. If you were taller than 5 ft, you could not fit inside of it. Seriously, everyone. That product was absolutely terrible. And after my review went up, the product was pulled from the market. And get this, it is back. It is back, and it has been improved greatly, or so it seems. In this episode, we will be taking a look at the brand new MC2 Mount bivy tent. Do know this, for whatever reason, the company discontinued that one bivy tent.
We understand that. But for some reason, they have introduced two new versions of this tent here. They appear to be very similar, but yet the foot box is designed differently with each tent. With this tent here, the foot box is more rounded. But with the other version, it's more squared. Why there's two versions, I do not know. What I do know is that we will take a look at both versions. Starting with this one here, where the foot box is rounded. So here we have the brand new MC2 Mount bivy tent. Talk about a small form factor. This is roughly 15 in by 4 in and this is very lightweight. So we have the storage bag here.
We have a draw pull up here at the top. Here's the tent and all of the components. And I should mention that on the inside we have set up instructions. This is sewn to the storage bag itself. We have two fabric compression straps aka garbage. Here we have tent poles. There are two. Here we have tent stakes and guy lines. And here we have the tent itself. Let's go ahead and let's take a look at these tent poles. So we have two basic aluminum poles here. Now let's take a look at the tent stakes and whatever else is inside of this bag. We have a repair kit and we have a ton of tent stakes.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 tent stakes. We also have four guy lines. As you all can see here, the tent has been set up. As far as the setup process goes, it is very simple. Stake out one side, insert the big pole, insert the small pole, stake it out, guy it out, and you're done. You can easily have this set up in about 5 minutes. Down here, we have the foot box. Up here, we have the head. Up towards your head, you have a large vent. Down at the foot box, you have a small vent. On this side here, we have the door. We have a storm flap that goes over the zipper. And as you can see, you can roll back the door. On the inside of the tent, you do have some vestibule space for shoes,
maybe your backpack, some water, a stove, and so on. Here we have the zipper, so that we can open up the inner. And the inner, I should mention, is attached to the fly itself. This is a single wall tent. With the previous MC2 Mount Bivy Tent, it was almost impossible to get inside of it because it was so small. I can tell you all already, this is substantially better as far as the design goes. And I can very easily get inside of this. And everyone, I can fit. There is a ton of space inside of this tent. And I have to say, I'm impressed. When you're inside the tent, you can see the vent down at the foot box. You can also see the vent up at the top where your head's going to be. You have mesh on your side, along with a storage pocket,
and you have a single hook at the top for hanging items. In addition, we have a bathtub floor with taped seams. Without a doubt, everyone, I am very impressed with the changes that MC2 Mount has made. They took a product that was useless. You couldn't even use it, literally. And they've made something that is substantially better. Now, of course, I'm talking about this tent from a design standpoint as of right now. I can look at this tent, I can make observations, but we still have to test it out. With that said, the quality of this tent is very impressive. The seam work, the stitching, the seam tape, everything about this tent from the construction standpoint is perfect. And
that's what I expect from MC2 Mount. This company obviously knows how to make tents. Their quality has always been very good. Their tents have always been very much waterproof. And up until that bivy, their designs were good. So, they had one little mistake with that bivy. Folks, that thing was weird. But after my video, they discontinued that product, went back to the drawing board, and now we have this. And this is looking really, really good. With this tent here, this is a three-season tent, meaning this was designed for the warmer months. You can certainly use this in cooler months, in the colder months, but this tent was designed for airflow, and that's why we have so much mesh on the
inside. This is a one-person tent. It has one door, two vents. You are going to find this tent in one color, and you're looking at it. This is a dark green. Again, when it's stored, roughly 15 in by 4 in. When it comes to the weight, it is a very impressive 2.6 lb. Concerning the materials, we have a 15 D near nylon that features a 3,000 mm hydrostatic head rating. We have aluminum poles, aluminum tent stakes, and YKK zippers. As far as the real-life dimensions go, we have a peak height of 39 in. That's it. The tent is roughly 38 in wide at the widest point. And it does taper at the foot box. As far as length goes, and I'm talking about usable length. If you are 6'4" and under, you can get this tent to work for
you. If you're taller than that, your feet or your head will be touching the materials. The sweet spot, in my opinion, is right around 6'3" 6'4" and you're good. That means that this tent is going to work for the vast majority of users. Not only is there enough space for yourself, but also enough space for some gear, too. And that, everyone, takes us over to the price of this tent. At the time of filming on Amazon, $140. There is a 10% off coupon that's available on Amazon. I used it when I purchased this tent. I do not know how long that coupon's going to be there, so by the time this video goes up, it may be there or it may not be. As it stands
right now, I'm very impressed with this bivy tent. This is a large bivy tent, designed for one person plus some gear. It looks like the ventilation's going to be good, but my question is, how good? This is, again, a single-wall tent, meaning the fly and the inner are one. Generally speaking, when it comes to single-wall tents, condensation can be a problem, so that is something that we will certainly test out. With that said, we do have quite a bit of mesh that is going to help. When I was inside of this tent, I could actually feel air flow coming from the foot box and from the other side, in addition to this side here. Naturally, I do have questions
about waterproofing, and that is something that we will test out soon enough. As far as the quality goes, it looks to be excellent. There's not a single loose thread, nothing like that. This tent looks good. The weight is very, very good. This is a large bivy tent and it only weighs 2.6 lb, and that's not bad at all. When it's stored, the form factor is quite small. It's It's going to take up much space inside of your backpack. For bike packing purposes, this could be the perfect tent. As far as the setup process goes, it's nice and simple, and because the inner is connected to the fly, not only can you set this up in the rain without the
inner getting wet, but it does make the entire process faster. So, you can set this up in about 5 minutes, which is quite impressive for a tent of this size. In the end, everyone, I am very impressed with what MC 2 Mount has done here. There are a number of areas where I'm concerned about. One, airflow. Two, condensation. The other area is with the materials themselves. This is made with a silicone treated nylon, and that means that the material will stretch some when it gets wet. How bad is the stretching going to be? Is that going to cause any sort of issues when you're inside of the tent? those concerns in my future review. You know, folks, this tent here is the very first real competitor to the Snugpak Ionosphere that I've seen. I love the Snugpak Ionosphere. It's a good, and I mean good, one-person bivy style tent. The thing is this, the company jacked up the prices so high it no longer makes sense to buy it. For a tiny tent made out of polyester, it should not cost $300. That is insane. At the same time, Snugpak is not known for their quality, so buying a $300 tent made from polyester that has loose threads all over it and questionable quality, it's just not worth it. This here, everyone, could very well be worth it. The design is better, the materials are better,
