I Regret Nothing. | Transcript:

I have made quite literally thousands of videos and I regret nothing. Excuse me. The audience would disagree. What? Alex has been cooking on some of the more questionable things I've done and said over the years. So, we're going to see just how bad it really is. Oh man, I'm going to get you cancelled. Don't do that. We all rely on me being a good boy, and I'm a good boy most of the time. I think we're going to start with the big one. Wait, wait, don't tell me what's the big one. Oh, when I said that the PS5 is worse, you mean when I was right and everyone disagreed with me?

Excuse you. So, the story here is back in 2021, Sony revised the PS5. They basically just chopped the heat sink in half, but they made it significantly cheaper to build and as I claim in the video, worse. You got like a big chungus. I've got a little chungus. Now, no. There's no scenario in which this is good. As you might imagine, this video got uh somewhat of a controversial take because oh my god, people hated you so much. Hey, so here's the thing. Did I slightly overstate it? Maybe. 2% worse is still worse. And the thing was, it was literally a downgrade in every possible way for you, the end user. You're going to have some kind of negative effect.

And it was warmer. Give me some credit here. When they uh revised it again, I said it was better. I even had like the new PS5 is better. What was the problem? What was the problem with this video? They found issues with your testing methodology. Fair. The first time we did this, it was a very small difference. Maybe instead of saying the new PS5 is worse, I should have said this PS5 is slightly worse. There. That is that good enough. Is that my apology? Yeah. Let us know in the comments. Is that good enough? Real Xbox fanboys hate you too for a very specific reason. You hate batteries in the Xbox

controllers. Oh my god. Now, you may look at this and say, "Hey, Austin, it's 2024. My PS3 had a rechargeable battery in 2006." And to that, it would say, "Yeah, it did, didn't it? Slap for AA batteries cuz it's 2024 and people love AA batteries." And every time I do that, 80% of the comments are like, "Don't take away my AA batteries." It's so much more sustainable instead of having like stupid lithium-ion batteries that will sustainable if you buy the rechargeable pack for it. Like I'm gonna go out and spend like 60 bucks on an Xbox controller and then spend another

$20 to buy the batteries for it. I don't know. You don't sound very sorry at all. I'm not sorry. Going back to the times you got cancelled times as if it's happened multiple times. This is your take on the framework video. People are real grumpy, mister. Okay. So I don't think the idea of framework makes sense. When you're charging premium prices, you shouldn't be getting value hardware. Now, I don't want this video to come across as entirely negative. I liked the idea that it was modular and all these other things, but the problem was with that laptop, it was like double the price of a laptop with similar specs. And I know sustainability and upgradeability is all a thing. If I

could like buy the same spec of a laptop today for 600 bucks and then three years from now buy another $700 laptop and have a much better spec and still have two laptops. Like just for me the price was wildly out of step since then. The Pro has recently just come out and that looks better. That looks like it's a step in the right direction. But ultimately I don't think people are buying laptops to support a company. They're buying a laptop because they want something that's going to, you know, work well for them and work over the long term. He's not sorry. Get them, boys. Get in the comments. I'll I'll apologize for things I was wrong about.

I'm getting grumpy. I'm getting I'm getting defensive and upset immediately. Oh, well, you know, this is a very familiar statement for you because what happens when you unbox something and you don't know how to use it and I always tell you to, I don't know, look at a manual, read the instructions maybe. Do you remember one specific time when it was extremely important? It opens forcefully. Be cautious when opening. So if you Oh Jesus. Okay. Basically, it nailed me hard enough that my nose immediately started gushing blood. Yeah, it was a waterfall of blood. I can't believe we still had this thing. I'm not opening it.

You don't have to. You know, this has nothing to do with anything, but I thought it would just be funny just to do a quick little montage of your style faux paws over the years. Let's just insert that editor. What? You got your long hair era, you got your terrible spiky hair era, you got your mustache era, you got Okay. Yeah, the mustache was bad. Do I look that different than I did like five years ago or 10 years ago, 15 years ago? I thought we were like roasting my decisions, not roasting my appearance and everything about my personality. All right, mister. You want something serious? How about this?

Oh, the Fisker Ocean. Yeah. So, a couple years ago, the Fisker Ocean was a brand new electric SUV, which I thought was really cool, and I still stand by that. The Fisker company was going through some real turmoil. The issue was is they were running out of money, so they started like cutting the price. It was like a multiple week saga of me trying to get my hands on the Fisker Ocean. They finally said, "Okay, your car is ready." But they were basically like dissolving as a company, and I kind of changed my mind at that point. And honestly, I still actually do kind of regret not buying one cuz like my whole the whole point of this video was to get one. Are we talking about a Fila 2? Are we doing it all together?

Look, you for whatever reason, just love all of these weird Eevee. Yes, this was actually, full disclosure, a sponsored video. The Aila is a collaboration or was a collaboration between Sony and Honda. I'm a level with you. I, you may not be surprised to learn, want to use stuff that's weird, right? That's why I'm a flippy boy. I don't want to be normal. And the Aila really appealed to me because it was, first of all, the PlayStation card, the tech was crazy in it. I was so impressed. I actually pre-ordered one on the spot and they were all like, "Wait, you did what?" The problem, much like with the Fisker, is that a Fila went out of business.

Basically, even though this might be a problem for future sponsors, if I'm really excited about your brand new car, I might accidentally put it out of business, which is hilarious that you said that because this isn't the only time. It's not just with EVs. Oh, Stadia. Okay, we have not to talk about Yeah, you are on board. You are Mr. Stadia. I've tried a lot of cloud gaming services and there's no doubt that this is the best one yet. Out of all the things that I've talked about in this video, I might have been the most wrong about Stadia. Okay, it was a sponsored video to be fair, but the initial promise of Stadia was legitimately impressive. And the idea was it wasn't just like cloud streaming, but they pitched it on all this kind of really

cool that never happened. That was the reason why I thought Stadia was cool and it performed fine but it wasn't actually like incredibly smooth. And the other thing was uh Stadia had a bad business model because if you look at something like GeForce Now you're renting a PC in the cloud, right? So you still have to supply all your own games. It's just like literally you got a PC in the cloud. When it comes to Xbox, the games are included. But the problem is Stadia did both of these. So it was kind of like the worst of both worlds. Then you would also need to buy the games which are only available in Stadia. The good thing is when they killed Stadia, they gave everyone their money back. Even if

you had like played a bunch of stuff. Uh, I think that's the bare minimum. Excuse you. I'll freely put my hands up. I was wrong about Stadia. I'm Sawi. Oh, actually legitimately Sawi this time. Your sincerity is coming through. I feel a little bad. How about we talk about some cool stuff that you've done that the audience has never seen before, like this one here. Oh my god. So, was uh a video we did a couple years ago that we actually had to take down. Maybe because some of the tech in the video wasn't supposed to be in the video and I had to remove it. For those of you who have not seen it or didn't see it in

the like little bit of time that was live, Redacted Company allowed me to try some of their really cool tech that had to do with flying in a plane and whatnot. It was amazing. It was one of my bucket list experiences. And fire a missile off. Boom. Oh, got him. There he goes. But I will say that the tag that we included wasn't my fault. Did you really go all the way through the archive? Oh, yeah. There's a bunch. This one might not have been your favorite memory, but No. This was a failed video that never saw the light of day. I tried to build a humanpowered gaming PC. We're going to have a monitor up here. I'm going to

have to use a controller. Ah, okay. So, this is not working. I can't even get the PC to start. So, we got power, but it's not enough to even try to kick on. It is enough power to turn on the LED on the mouse. So, what we did was we took an old racing setup. We mounted a set of pedals that actually had like an electric motor on it. We connected it to an inverter. And so, if you could pedal fast and hard enough, it would actually put out, you know, I think we had up to like 50 or 60 watts at one point. We spent, I'm not exaggerating, probably a year trying to make this actually happen. It was too difficult as a person

to pedal consistently enough and long enough to actually get it. I think we were all frustrated with it and we ended up just killing the video. NFTTS. Oh no. Oh my god. You were going to make an NFT of yourself. No. Before everyone murders me, this was a video that I made explaining what NFTts are. I started working on this video before they had the like toxic terrible reputation. So, the whole story was a friend of mine made an NFT and was very successful with it. So, I made a whole explainer video. I actually got really into it. I didn't buy any NFTs, didn't make any. I wasn't like a freaking scammer or something. We

have obviously like a whole team who make you the vast majority of videos. But, every once in a while, I get really fired up about a project and I just solo make the whole thing. So, this is a video that like I shot, I edited, I did all by myself. I didn't even tell most of everybody in the office about it cuz I was kind of embarrassed by it. But, uh, yeah. So, maybe if you had told the rest of us, we would have told you that it was not a good idea. I know the problem was though was that I took me a couple months to make the video and in that couple of months NFTts went from being like no one knew what they were to everyone hating them and I think I took it down within an hour because everyone's like you. I threw my hands I'm like you know what that's fair I

need to read the room. Who could have known? Who knows how long this video lasts along with the rest of the NFT space. All right, mister. Explain this. Oh, you know what? These Austin solo projects are the ones that almost always get canned. This is an unreleased PS5 Pro video. Oh my god. Oh no. Okay, this one aged poorly. Why would Sony make a PS5 Pro? Why would they add all the extra complication for the developers? And I think they should make a portable PS5. This was a video I made a few years ago basically saying the PS5 Pro would never exist. Well, now and it was expensive,

but it actually did end up happening and I was wrong. Mister, what's this? Why do you keep on starting Why do you keep starting up new channels? Here's the thing. In the early days, it was very popular to have a second or a third or fourth channel, whatever. So, I made a lot of channels. Is it D3? This is D3. This is the announcement video for D3. Oh my god, it still works. Holy. This was my first like real second channel. It's literally youtube.com/d3. A URL that they somehow have not taken away from me at this point. This channel's old enough to drive now. Oh, I don't like that.

Well, this is not the only channel. I think we had a separate channel for it. Marquez and I had a podcast. I had D3 Starcraft back when I tried to be a Starcraft 2 commentator. My replays played at like 10 FPS. I found eight things. Yeah, there you go. That's one of them. Yeah. And we did all over Google Plus. Oh, another thing that died. All right, Mr. Evans. Yes, sir. You've you've answered to a lot of questionable videos, a lot of questionable takes, but here is the question that everybody is dying to know.

Okay, why did you stop saying hey guys? This is Austin. Oh my god, we're still on this. IT'S BEEN SO LONG. Every video there's at least a couple people that are like, I miss Hey guys. If you're a new subscriber to the channel, you may not know that for a very long time, I started every video with, "Hey guys, this is Austin." And look, it was fun. It was great. I'll be very honest with you, the reason I stopped doing it was because I kept getting tagged on Twitter by people saying that I was like anti-feminist. There were like threads I was getting tagged in. They were getting like thousands of likes. I'm like, I'm not trying to like be mean or rude or whatever. It's just like a way I would

like say things. There was also a practical reason too which was I was trying to optimize the sort of intros for videos and starting every video with hey guys this is Austin. It took a couple of seconds. All right sounded in the comments what should it be replaced with? Hey folks, this is Austin and today actually you know what is that all you got for now? Ju just give me time. I'll I'll cancel you. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. Why would you want to do that? If you enjoyed seeing me own up to some of my previous decisions, make sure to subscribe to the channel and ringling that dingling button.

Oh my god, we have to cancel you for that. I hate ringing dingling. What's wrong with the ringling the dingling? And let Alex know in the comments what things should we talk about next.
