New York Area Weather: Sun and Clouds Mix for Monday, Warmup Ahead

Monday in the New York area will bring a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures near 70°F, following a weekend of fluctuating conditions. A small rain chance exists, mainly south of Long Island, but the week ahead looks mostly dry with a warming trend into the 80s. High pressure will dominate, though a more active pattern may arrive by early next week.

It's going to be a beautiful start to the week, hey Tom? Hey, Chris. Absolutely. A beautiful end to the week, too. But, it's going to be a little on the warm side. So, we're getting ready for a big change. Of course, we had a sizable change over the weekend, too. You remember it. Weather Watcher Charlie does. Strange weekend, he calls it. Dressed in layers on Saturday. So did I. Sweatshirt, jacket. You needed something. It was chilly in the wind, too. And then, all of a sudden, on the Sunday, it felt like we were just turning things around. Back to t-shirts and shorts weather. And, yeah, it's about time. It's June. Right now,

you check in with the numbers, and it's a range of mainly 50s on the board. Bob appreciates the fact that it's a little milder this morning. So, that jog, not going to need the extra layer for. It's partly cloudy. It's 59 with calm winds right now. Really nice day ahead that can get us to near 70 or the low 70s, we're thinking, between hours this afternoon. Other than the fact that it's maybe a couple degrees cooler than yesterday, it's still going to be very comfortable to be outside. Small rain chance, have to account for that. But, what a ride, right? From barely to 60 Saturday afternoon to the mid-70s yesterday. And, we are going to generally build from there. And, before

you know it, it's 80s and then some by week's end. Couple of showers, sure. Got to talk about that. Mainly south of the LIE in Suffolk. So, watch out if you are in a place like Brightwaters or Brentwood. Some of this is approaching Islip, too, and out towards Brookhaven. A little bit of activity. Most of us are going to be dry. Now, when we look at the model data for the future cast this afternoon, a lot of our short-term models are painting a few showers. And, they're all painting them generally in the same spot. So, basically, north and east of the city, Connecticut, parts of the Hudson Valley. That's how it's looking. But, I think when we look at the week as a whole, we have high pressure to thank for a mainly

tranquil stretch of weather that's going to be generally dry and feature a good amount of sunshine. So, believe it or not, today's 20% rain chance maybe as active as it gets this week as this front goes by. Once it does, clouds will go along with it and then I think you know, it's essentially set the umbrellas aside, not going to get a whole lot of use out of it. Despite the fact that we could use some rain, we're not getting any help from Mother Nature in terms of the drought situation and unfortunately we may see that worsen with time. Rain chance is 20% today, best I could find and then tomorrow it's 10% and then that's it. Rain chances are pretty quiet from here. Long range though, there are

some signs that we could get into a more active pattern. That's not going to be during the work week. And I think for the weekend, it's okay to start on Saturday, but I am seeing a period where it turns a little more busy. Whether that's more Sunday and early next week, that'll be something to watch. Not going to find much rain, but models are picking up on what could be more of a soggy stretch down the road. We will keep you posted on how that play evolves as we get closer. But what you need to know is, yeah, you're loving time outside. Spend some time outside. We're definitely going to go from open window weather to AC weather with temperatures feeling like summer by week's end. 5:46, let's

see what's happening on the roads. Guy, how we looking? Well Tony, we have a little bit of better news in Brooklyn. We have a crash that has cleared out from the southbound BQE right near Metropolitan Avenue. We still have a little bit of slow traffic back to about the Kosciuszko Bridge, but traffic is moving much better than last time we checked. In Freehold, New Jersey, Route 33 remains closed on the westbound side between Howell Road and Halls Mill Road due to an overturned truck with a fuel spill. Taking a live look outside in East Rutherford, Route 3 in the foreground, the Turnpike in the background, both moving very well at 5:46 this morning. Alternate side parking is in effect today citywide.

Chris, Mary.
