Texas House Renovation Finally Turns a Cabin Into a Real Home

A Texas cabin renovation moves forward as the crew replaces mineral wool frames, installs drywall on nearly every wall, and removes the green wall. A craftsman is set to apply a plaster layer, marking a major step toward making the house feel like a real home.

Our Texas House is FINALLY Starting to Look Like a HOME! | Transcript:

Good morning, adventure seekers. Good morning and welcome to another day of endless repairs at the cabin. Friends, it may seem endless for now, but I promise we are about to make some very big changes in this place. We're so tired of looking at this mineral wool and frames, and I think it's time to do something about it. You may have noticed that inconspicuous pile of drywall in the back. It will soon be installed on almost every wall in this damn house. I think we will also finally get rid of this green wall.

We talked to a craftsman who is supposed to come here and apply a layer of plaster. We've also been planning to paint all of our woodwork on the outside for a long time, but we've never gotten around to it, so we'll have to do that too. So, from the outside, the house will finally start to look complete. I finally feel like I'm starting to see a glorious light at the end of this tunnel. This is probably because you fell off another ladder and see the light not of heaven, but of purgatory. Like in "Poltergeist," don't go into the light. This is a trap.

Stay here. Okay, we've officially gone off course, and that usually means it's time to move on. But man, we have a lot to do before we put up that drywall, and even more after, so we're going to try to get a lot of it in this video. I promise. Time to start? Time for entry? Let's go. DJ, start the intro. Well, we have put together the best plan for success. But first we need to clean this damn place. Well, it took forever, but we cleaned up here. Almost removed. Like that. Don't look there, over there, in that corner. Because they have to bring the drywall here, and we'll ask them to put it right there.

I hope they're happy with it, because I do n't have the energy for this project anymore. Before you end the day, here's a quick thing to do Laundry room ventilation. This is scary because it means we will have to make a huge hole in our house again. Is that correct? Did we calculate correctly God, I really hope so. Terrible. Ugh! One layer. Ventilation is installed. So the question is, will it be ventilated? Oh, what a mess. Oh, that's how it works. But I saw the light coming through, so the ventilation opened.

Come on. So, you're probably wondering what this item on our to-do list means. Build an arch. Hmm, what kind of arch can we build? She is there. Here she is. We could leave this regular rectangular entrance and make our lives much easier, but we won't do that. Instead, we'll turn it into a beautiful, magnificent arch. We aim to create a mid-century atmosphere here. I'm sure we mentioned this throughout the construction and you already understood it from the exterior, but the interior has to match. And this is the first step. Did n't someone write in the comments of our last video that this is the most " rebuilt" tiny house on YouTube or something?

Yes, it doesn't matter. Dude, this is our first and probably only house we're building, so we're doing everything to the max. Hey, better " rebuilt" than built like nothing. Yes. So, let's build an arch. We carved our little.arches. Oho! That was strange. What's mine. Rate it, huh? This will work. This arch will be an arch. Well said. Allison is in love with our new arch. It looks so cool. But now you know what I'm thinking?

Oh, oh. Do we need another one here? Oh, well, that one is more difficult because it's at an angle. I know. Okay, let's leave that one as is. It's already architecturally interesting because of the angle and all that. But this is so cool! I don't know about arches, but to me, they're exactly what this place was missing. Just a little something special. A little bit of chic. A little charm. But do you know what that means? We did it! Another item on the list has been completed. We conveniently covered it all up so we could n't see how much was left. And there is a lot left.

Well, we installed all of our foam insulation above the window lintels, so that's another item crossed off the to-do list. Unfortunately, we still have a few pieces of insulation left to install, but I'm not taking any chances this time. Well, I've been at this for a while now, and here's what happened. Also, I'm going to cover my entire body so that I don't get any more of that damn rock wool on me. Uh, can you tell me what's in your pocket? Oh, it grows and shows itself. Do you like it? Okay, you caught me. You did it.

Okay, let's install these pieces of pointless insulation. Well, we're already at the finish line, friends. The drywall will arrive at exactly 7:00 AM, and we are trying to do everything we can to be ready for it. Allison went to practice, and I'm here cleaning, trying to be thorough so that everything is 100% ready for their arrival. Folks, we just destroyed our to-do list. We had to run Cat 6 cable through the ceiling, and we installed Starlink, so it's ready to go. We installed some 2x4s in the laundry room so that we would have something to secure

the water heater to after installing the drywall. We had to run some wire here for the hood above the stove. We brought all our wires outside to the panel. I know it looks like chaos, but we showed it to our electrician and he said it was fine. He will be able to work with this. I ran sealant along all the bottom edges of the bottom trim to make sure everything was sealed well. We kept adding a lot of tasks to the list, but I'm happy to say that we seem to have accomplished almost everything. I feel like I've been living in this mask for a week now because I don't want this dust to get into my lungs. I don't want to inhale fibers that make me feel irritated. But I'll be happy when we close it all up, clean it up,

vacuum it, and I do n't have to wear it anymore. Dude, I had to take it off for a second before I felt the dust in my lungs. Oh my God. It was very nice, friends. What? You just laughed. Oh, yes. Damn, that was stupid. Why isn't this money I'm collecting? Have you ever taken a bunch of money, tossed it around, and danced in it? I really want to do this. Well, good morning everyone. This is one of the few great days here on the lot, because as you can see, I'm in regular clothes. I'm not doing anything. We have a team of drywallers here, guys. Today is the day when everything changes.

Will this be our cover for the video? Is this clickbait? The day when everything will change. We didn't expect this. Although this is exactly what we were waiting for. What were they planning? But there is one small, or, actually, a very big problem. We ca n't just talk about it here because I'll feel really embarrassed if they hear. But we'll tell you about that in a moment, friends. This is where we leave them. We have a lot of things to do today. Although it doesn't seem like it. Some of the garbage has already been removed. We actually packed a bunch of everything into the truck.

We need to take this away. We still need to pick up a bunch of cedar planks to install on the ceiling, and I really need coffee and food. So, two birds with one stone One Chuck truck, two adventurers, a little math-and it's done. Well, I think we'd better tell you about Allison's little mess. We received an estimate from the I thought that was a very reasonable price. I was so happy to finally get a price that was in line with what we were hoping for. So we confirmed the order, they arrived, and just as we were about to write the check, Allison says, "Oh, [__], I made a mistake. That's twice as much as we thought."

They sent an estimate and it turned out that it was just a deposit. I don't know. We were in a hurry. We got an estimate while we were working, so I said, "Class." But it turned out that if you open the account and scroll to the very bottom, there is a small line where it says $4,400, but $ 2,200 is due today. If we had realized this then, we probably would have done the drywall ourselves, because I'm not sure if it's worth $4,400. You know how much everything else costs us It's literally all our savings from doing the insulation ourselves, just disappeared. But hey, at least someone else is doing it and not us. This is worth something. You may have to give up your morning coffee for the next year to compensate.

This might actually make up for it, because this girl spends a ton of money on coffee. Yes, as are you, sir. Yes, that's true. Well, since we just spent an extra $2,200, Allison, we have to save money wherever we can. So, we stopped to fill up our truck, use Upside to get cashback, and want to quickly thank them for partnering with us in this video. Upside gives cash back on groceries, restaurants, and fuel, and this gas station will give us back 10 cents on every gallon. Which is great, because diesel costs almost six damn dollars, people Oh my God. To use, simply open the Upside app, find deals nearby, click "get deal," pay with a credit or debit card, and get your money, baby. Upside has already returned over $1 billion to its users. And to find out

how much you could earn, download the free Upside app and use promo code Endless Adventure to get an extra 25 cents off every gallon on your first fill-up. We are just selecting all our wooden parts here. Look how many of them we need. And that's not all. These are just 14-foot boards, friends. Oh my God. The only downside is that it's taking a little longer than we planned, and the rain is coming. Yes. So, will we get home before we get wet in the rain? I don't know, friends. But we still need nine 16- foot boards. These are only 14 feet.

Look how far they stick out already. They have 16-footers in stock, but they're all kind of moldy, and we definitely don't want that. Mold is growing on them. So I guess we'll hold off on buying the 16-footers for now. Well, we're back. We got all our boards, and while we were gone, Erin, which took a lot longer than we thought, the team inside was just working like crazy. They installed most of the drywall. They are simply much faster than we ever would be. And I know that in the end we paid twice as much as we had planned, and it hit us hard, but I still think it was the right choice, because we would still be a long way from

completion. And I think it freed up a lot of our mental energy, because I think this project would have been very exhausting for us, because we want to do everything perfectly, and we've never done anything like this before. So now everything will be done perfectly, and we don't have to worry. We're going to stain and prep all of these ceiling boards so that when the drywall is finished, we can get right to work on installing the ceiling. But we have set up a small workplace here. We had to make it big because we have many, many boards that need to be painted and varnished. So, let's get down to business. OK. Well, we laid them all out and almost made a big mistake. We forgot to saw them. I mean, we could do it after we finish and paint them, but.

Yeah, that wouldn't be the best idea. No, it will be much easier now, but it means we have to go through all of them, and we have 53 of them, and then finish and paint them. Well, let's get to work. We've already done four. But there is still a lot of work ahead. Okay, we cut the boards and managed to paint a few of them, but we need to move on to another project. I bet some of you think we're going to leave this green wall behind forever. This is a real accent. From an architectural point of view, it's interesting.

No, of course not. We always planned to do a nice grayish-white plaster here and then maybe have someone paint a mural or something cool. A craftsman will come to us tomorrow to do this. This is another project we didn't dare to take on ourselves because we've never done plaster or anything like that in our lives. We can't wait for this green wall to disappear. It's like the last piece of junk. Yes, it's even in our animated screensaver. There's this green wall, but. stupidity. Yes, the next time you see this screensaver, there will already be a plastered wall.

Yes, but as you may have noticed.Oh, it's nothing. As you may have noticed, we sheathed the wall with wood, and the next step is to cover it with wood stain. This needs to be done before the plasterer arrives, because we don't want to paint when the plaster is already ready, so as not to get anything dirty. We're using this Cabot Gold in Sunlit Walnut, and that's what we applied to the cedar planks that run vertically here. We already checked it on that frontal board up there on the roof. At first it went on a little shiny and yellowish, not at all like the rich brown color we wanted, but then, about a month later, it suddenly started looking incredible.

I guess there's nothing left to do but do it. Every time we do something like this, we think: is this the moment we will finally ruin our home? I don't know. Maybe it's him. The weather has changed dramatically. Yesterday it was 30 degrees, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Today is as cloudy as possible. It's somewhere around 15-18 degrees now. Tonight it will be around 5-10 degrees. And we have a Yes. Look, everything is going crazy.

Look what I'm wearing. What kind of fool? We weren't in Oh my god. We have felt cold in months. I forgot how it is. I do n't like it. I liked the warm weather. Even if it was hot, it was better than this. But the show must go on. And by that I mean that more people came to work for us. So yesterday you saw that we completely painted the wood around that green wall, and now they're going to put a whitish smooth plaster over it. It will be so incredibly beautiful. Yes, it would be better that way, because we are already doing it. There will be no turning back once he does this. But we weren't even close to

finishing painting all of our ceiling boards, so. friends, we only managed ten. We already cut them all for our great room, but we still need to prep them and paint them. We try to be diligent and get all the work done, but I swear this tree is trying to kill us. We set up here yesterday to try to get out of the sun. There is no sun today, but there is wind, and was even scared for a moment, because I thought that branch was going to fall on us. I think it's already broken off. She simply keeps her word. So sooner or later it will fall. I think we might need to move.

Yes. Much better. Good. So, we move forward. We have this huge pile of boards. Alison is working hard on her coloring. Aha. Are these the last two? For the main ceiling. We still need to make over 20 pieces for the bedroom. But this is the main ceiling. This already means something. The main ceiling, and we still need to seal them, of course, or varnish them. But that's for another time, because it's too windy to do anything else.

Well, the plasterers have already left, I think they're almost finished. They did pretty well, in my opinion. I think this is exactly what house needed. But in reality, they're not finished yet. They need to apply another coat to give them the final color, and we can't agree with the owner of the company on what color to choose. These were the samples they showed us. This one was too blue- gray. This one was too bright white. So none of them are suitable. No. But now that it's already applied, we're almost thinking: maybe we should leave it like that? Yes, we actually need something like gray, but a little lighter and with a cream undertone. If it's too white, the sun will shine right there and just blind

people. So we need the surface to absorb some of the light. It was interesting to watch him apply all of this. First they rolled out the roofing felt and then attached it with a stapler. They put a metal mesh on top of it to hold it all together. Then he applied a thick layer of mortar. And then I used a tool to smooth everything out. When it was all dry, he came back, peeled off a little layer, and applied another one. Well, as soon as the plasterers left, the drywall craftsmen appeared. So today we will have time to do everything. Yes, I'm glad they did n't come at the same time, because we have a lot of space, but not enough to accommodate all these teams.

No, I didn't think anyone else would come, so I settled in the middle of the driveway. Oh. Eric is working on the second coat of paint. I'm cutting more boards for our bedroom. They install drywall. That's it. Wow. Let's get things done, people. I like it. This is a "get things done" dance. I thought he would be more energetic. No, he's quite energetic. People around you, you know, need to behave more modestly. The drywallers have finished. It looks pretty good here, huh?

I think they'll be back tomorrow to do the final walkthrough, but oh well, they're not finished. Okay. I thought they were all gone. I do n't know. They just come and then leave and say, " Thank you." "Bye." and I don't know what that means. So yeah, and we never know when they're going to show up, because we talked to the lady who runs the place, and she's like, "Oh, yeah, they'll probably come tomorrow or the day after tomorrow." and then suddenly 10 minutes later they appeared. So, but I'm not complaining. This means that the work is moving. We ordered a smooth finish. What is this? Fourth level? We don't want any "popcorn" walls or any texture on the walls. And also, people, we already found a painter.

They'll come and spray paint everything because we've already put on makeup in our lives and we just hate it. They have the equipment, but we don't. So again, we're bringing in more help. And I'm sure you already understand everything. We're ready to end this Yes. So we're enlisting all the help we can. That's why sometimes we have three contractors working here at the same time, and even ourselves. Yes, but this means that as soon as the walls are painted, our ceiling panels will already be ready to be installed. We are working on choosing a floor covering. I think we've figured it out, all that's left to do is So goodbye, these walls, this disgusting

floor, and this ceiling with insulation. Yes, because in the next two weeks, all of this will probably disappear, and everything will be ready. Oh my God. But we still have a lot of work to do, but yes, we have big plans for the shower, the kitchen , and a bunch of other things. to move on to the internal work, so okay, I guess that's it That's all. Dude, it's finally the [__] weekend and I'm ready to have some fun. Okay. Goodbye, adventurers. See you on the road.
